Is there anything better than seeing a team finally end a ridiculously long playoff draught? This year, that team was the Kansas City Royals.  A team that absolutely no one predicted to make a deep playoff run.  We all were wrong on that one!  It had been 29 years since Royals fans got a chance to see their team play meaningful baseball in October.

The Royals wild playoff ride started with an even crazier Wild Card game against Oakland A’s.  It took 12 innings and lots of bunts, but the Royals got the job done to advance to the American League Division Series to play the Angels.  The Angels were the early favorite to win the World Series, but they were no match for the Royals who only needed three games to sweep them.  As if that was not impressive enough, the Royals then proceeded to sweep the Baltimore Orioles in the American League Championship Series.

It was not until the World Series that the Royals finally lost a game in the postseason.  The series went a full seven games, but the Royals’ hitter could not figure out Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner who pitched in three games during the series.  The Royals may not have won the whole thing, but it sure was fun watching and rooting for them!

  1. My son lives in Kansas City, so he kept me posted on how exciting the
Royals post-season was for the whole city. I followed it closely
because I’m a huge baseball fan and because it brought back some
wonderful memories. You see, I was AT Royals stadium for the first game
of the World Series 29 years ago when I lived in Missouri and the KC
Royals played the St. Louis Cardinals!. Unforgettable!
