I guess the saying is true, defense does win championship.  The Seattle Seahawks proved it after defeating Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 48.  Seattle’s number one ranked defense held the Broncos number one ranked offense to just eight points. Manning could not handle the Seahawks constant pressure and ended up throwing two interceptions.  One of which was returned for a touchdown by the game’s MVP Malcolm Smith.

The Seahawks grabbed the lead within the first few seconds of the game, after a bad snap by Broncos center Manny Ramirez sent the ball sailing over Manning’s head resulting in a safety.  Denver was held scoreless the entire first half of the game and did not manage to score until late in the third quarter.  By that time, Seattle had already secured a very comfortable lead.  Seattle won 43-8, the third largest margin of victory in Super Bowl history.

The most entertaining moment, however, occurred during a post game interview involving Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman and FOX sideline reporter Erin Andrews. After a very physical game against the San Francisco 49ers for the NFC crown, Sherman was interviewed and announced that he was the best corner in the league.  It was a moment that was heavily criticized and imitated.
