Most of us are social distancing inside our homes. The coronavirus outbreak has halted all sporting events until further notice. Many of us have had to get creative to pass the time inside and not think about the coronavirus. Luckily, the sports world has managed to stay wildly entertaining.

Tom Brady

It’s hard to still be shocked in 2020, but Tom Brady truly sent shockwaves when he announced that he would not be returning to the Patriots. In a social media post, Brady explained he’s not sure “what the future holds, but it is time for me to open a new stage for my life and career”. By the end of that day, NFL insiders were reporting Brady was headed to Tampa Bay to join the Bucs.

The Buccaneers are a surprising choice. Many experts had put him playing for the Chargers. Since Los Angeles decided to move on from Phillip Rivers it made some sense. However, do you really think Brady wants to play Patrick Mahomes twice a season and then likely again in the playoffs?

It does make sense when you think about the NFC South. Brady instantly plays with one of the best receivers in the league, Mike Evans. With Jameis Winston that was an above-average offense. If Brady can just be accurate, they could be historic together. The Saints have always chosen to be an elite team during the regular season. When it comes to the playoffs the last few seasons, they have really left their fans disappointed.

The Panthers are in the process of letting their best player, Cam Newton, walk out the door and beginning the Teddy Bridgewater era. Bridgewater recently signed a three-year deal with Carolina. He had a strong showing when Brees was injured, winning all five games. Will he be able to do that all season on a new team? We’ll find out, but having to play Brady twice a season won’t help. The Falcons did finish the last two seasons in second place in the AFC South, however, they finished 7-9 both times. They were six games behind the first-place Saints.

DeAndre Hopkins

While the Brady news was shocking, the Texans’ decision to trade DeAndre Hopkins was one nobody saw coming. Hopkins was traded to the Arizona Cardinals to join longtime veteran Larry Fitzgerald and Kyler Murray.

The drama didn’t stop at the trade. The following day Michael Irvin said Hopkins had a conversation with Texans head coach Bill O’ Brien. Irvin alleged that O’Brien compared Hopkins to Aaron Hernandez and spoke about the mothers of his children. Irvin claims after that conversation, the relationship was forever fractured. Hopkins went on Twitter to say everything was being blown out of proportion.

In exchange, the Texans received running back David Johnson, a second-round pick, and a 2021 fourth-round pick. A robbery was committed in Houston.

Todd Gurley

How can you fire a man on his day off? That’s what former Rams running back Todd Gurley tweeted. It was announced that Los Angeles was releasing Gurley. They had attempted to trade Gurley, but could not find a partner.

The team made the move before 4:00 PM allowing them to avoid paying the $10.5 million that would have become guaranteed. It’s hard to believe the Rams are parting ways with their workhorse. Gurley led the league in touchdowns scored the previous two seasons. He was one of the key reasons the Rams reached the Super Bowl. He did, however, fail to show up in the big game. Last season his production decreased significantly. Along with knee injuries, it’s not hard to see why Los Angeles made the move.

We are all incredibly grateful for all of the healthcare workers fighting the coronavirus pandemic on the front lines. We are praying for anyone currently affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
