New York Giants legend Stephen Baker, affectionately nicknamed “The Touchdown Maker” spent some time with Sports As Told By A Girl talking all things New York Giants. Spending six seasons in New York, including winning a Super Bowl title in 1990, he knows the pressure that comes with the job. Baker gives his opinion as someone who delivered for New York on the Giants’ picking up Kenny Golladay and if Joe Judge is the right guy to lead the team back to a championship.

Did you develop any new skills in quarantine?

I became a better Xbox Madden player playing online because of all the free time! LOL But seriously I learned to be patient. I learned to do Zoom calls and hold Zoom meetings thus making all of us these days turn us into directors and producers.

We have to talk about your former team, the New York Giants. What do you think about the direction of the team?

As for my New York Giants, I loved the direction we are going. The coach [Joe Judge] is under the Belichick pedigree so he’s going to bring accountability to all the players which I love, basically old-school football.

Do they have their guy in Daniel Jones in your opinion?

Daniel Jones, you gotta love him. He can scramble. He’s had a couple of tough times with the fumbles, but that can all be corrected and I honestly believe he is a guy cause there’s really not anybody else out there.

The Giants have made some big moves recently. What are your thoughts on the signings of Kenny Golladay and Adoree’ Jackson?

As far as the signings Kenny Golladay and Adoree’ Jackson are all solid pics in the free-agent market however still have to play the game and bring everybody together because on paper we beat everybody but I love the direction that we’re going.

What was the best moment of your career?

I would have to say the best moment of my career was actually being drafted. That day when you know that you got picked by an NFL team and then also making that team. Of course the Super Bowl and to be lucky enough to score a touchdown in it and to win the Super Bowl. So those are probably the best highlights of my whole career..

What is your advice to young athletes who dream of becoming professional athletes?

The advice that I will give to young athletes who want to dream of being a professional athlete I say go for it. Work harder than the next man, but also have a backup plan. Just in case it doesn’t happen because sadly in professional sports it’s all about timing and being in the right situation at the right time. I consider myself lucky but I did all the right things to put myself in a position to possibly make an NFL team so that’s my best advice to the young men/women out there.
