Football is one of the most unpredictable games. it was the Kansas City Chiefs having as successful of a season as they have had. The Chiefs are coming off their seventh straight win and have become of the teams that other teams are afraid of playing. Even with the loss of Jamaal Charles, they’re a force to be reckoned with and one that doesn’t look to be silenced anytime soon.

Credit has to go to their head coach, Andy Reid. Reid has been the Chiefs head coach since 2013 after leaving the Eagles. One of Reid’s biggest philosophies is that he is not trying to change his players or trying to make them into a different team. Reid wants every person on the field to represent themselves with class, but also wants to give them a chance to be themselves. One guy on Reid’s roster who gets a really bad rep is starting quarterback Alex Smith. Smith praised Reid’s coaching saying, “I think very early on, you realize how much passion he has for the game and how much he wants guys to go out and cut loose and to play with emotion.” Even though Reid is the mastermind behind the plays, the people who make the plays happen deserve as much or, even more, credit than Reid.

The Chiefs were expected to have a disappointing year after their star RB Jamaal Charles tore his ACL during week five. However, Smith has shown that he doesn’t have to depend on running power. Take, for instance, their game against the Buffalo Bills which had a final score of 30-22. In that game, Smith completed 19 of 30 passes for 255 yards, threw two touchdowns with no interceptions and had a QB rating of 91.9. However, he also has a pretty good supporting cast incluing TE Travis Kelce, WR Jeremy Maclin and their rotating group of running backs.

The other side of the ball also deserves as much credit. One of the best defensive rookies of the 2015 class had to be Marcus Peters. As a cornerback/defensive end, Peters has had a monster season with 55 combined tackles, 1 forced fumble, and 5 interceptions. Along with Peters, the awaited return of Eric Berry after being sidelined with cancer has been triumphant to say the least. Berry has racked up 54 combined tackles and 2 interceptions and if there’s one guy who truly deserves the NFL’s Comeback Of The Year award, it’s Berry.

With all of the weapons on both sides of the ball, it’s easy to see why teams are scared. With only two games remaining, the Chiefs have a shot at making some noise in the playoffs this year. If the Chiefs can continue to play as aggressively as they have been and keep it together, this will be the year of the Chiefs.
