Even though Travis Kelce is young, he is one of the best tight-ends in the game right now. When Jamaal Charles was sidelined with an injury, Kelce stepped up and helped the Chiefs go on an eleven game winning streak.  Kelce’s commanding presence on the field helped get the Chiefs into the playoffs and selected to his first Pro Bowl.  The Chiefs have decided to show their appreciation for Kelce and that they have no intent on letting him go anytime soon.

Travis Kelce signed a 5-year, $46 million dollar contract extension with the Chiefs. The contract keeps Kelce in Kansas City until 2021 when Kelce will be 31. He signed the contract in Hawaii while there for the Pro Bowl which the Chiefs posted on their Twitter.

Kelce had a career year in 2015 and keeping him in Kansas City was smart for the Chiefs especially after their impressive 2015 season. Kelce played in all 16 games in addition to their two postseason games. He caught 72 of 100 receptions for 875 yards and five touchdowns along with 2 two-point conversions. Even though Kelce didn’t score that many touchdowns, it was obvious that he was an essential part of the Chiefs’ offense.

Chiefs GM John Dorsey has released a statement on Kelce’s extension, “He’s a talented football player that has become an important piece to what we do offensively…Travis is a high-character guy and a leader in our locker room.” In addition to Kelce’s high-character in the locker room, he is apparently taking his charms outside of the locker room too. Kelce is filming his own dating reality show entitled “Catching Kelce” which is set to air on E! Network later this year.

With a handful of Pro Bowl players and a healthy Jamaal Charles next year, the Chiefs could be as threatening next year. Kelce’s mega contract extension is most certainly the icing on the cake for a spectacular season for the Chiefs.
