The regular season kicks off today which is great news for NFL fans, but unfortunately it looks like the Seattle Seahawks will not have a whole lot to look forward to. Granted, they’ll probably beat the Rams, but it still won’t be the same without Kam Chancellor out there.

Chancellor’s holdout has become an unfortunate reality and a story that is of particular interests to their fans and the media. He signed a 4-year and $28 million dollar contract with the Hawks in 2013 and he’s looking for his contract to be restructured. However, the Seahawks have shown no interest in doing just that which is what prompted the holdout.

As a key member of the Legion of Boom, the Seahawks are taking a serious hit to their depth chart without Chancellor there and it looks like the situation isn’t going to get resolved any time soon. The New York Giants are trying to jump on the chance of getting Chancellor and have reportedly talked to Seattle about trading for him.  However, as of now it doesn’t look like Seattle will be trading Chancellor anytime soon.

Chancellor has not been present this entire offseason for the team. He hasn’t attended training camp or any of the preseason games. When HC Pete Carroll was asked about Chancellor, he responded very smoothly: “He’s not here, and he’s not playing…That’s all I can tell you at this point.” Apparently, the Seahawks are planning on him not being there for the whole entire season which could be really good or really bad.

The Legion of Boom is taking a huge hit with the loss of Chancellor, but this is something the team must prepare for. He also seems pretty content to sit out the whole season and basically just wants the Seahawks to give him the money he believes that he deserves. When Chancellor talked to NFL.com, he maintained that he would keep holding out until he got what he wanted. He said that he wants the Seahawks to meet him halfway and called the negotiations “petty” which can’t be good news for Seattle.

Overall, it looks like neither side is going to win. If Chancellor holds out, Seattle loses him on the depth chart and Chancellor could be fined for every game he misses. If Seattle negotiates with him, they get an important member of the LOB back and Chancellor gets what he wanted. Come Sunday though, don’t count on Kam being there.
