For the first time in Sochi, an unidentified athlete had failed a drug test.  The German Olympic Committee announced they received word from the IOC that a player had tested positive during a doping test.  A backup sample will be analyzed to confirm the findings.  The German Olympic Committee has not released the name of the athlete nor the events that athlete has participated/plans to participate in.

The only comment made regarding the situation was made by German team spokesman Stefan Schwarzbach, “All I can say is, we have a positive ‘A’ sample (somewhere on the German Olympic team). But as long as we don’t have a positive ‘B’ sample, we are not allowed to talk about that.”

Some sources, including ABC Action News, are reporting the athlete has been identified as biathlete Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle.  Sachenbacher-Stehle competed in five events, but did not win any medals.  Allegedly, she has already been sent home.
