Charlie White, 26, and Meryl Davis, 27, are the first ever Americans to win a gold medal in the Ice Dancing competition. The pair has been together for 17 years, and to them it feels like their hard work has finally paid off. They edged the former champions from the 2010 Olympics, Canada’s Tesse Virture and Scott Moir, who ended up taking silver this year.

White and Davis scored 116.63 points in the free dance to finish with a final score of 195.52, 4.53 ahead of Virtue and Moir. The bronze medal was awarded to Team Russia, who finished with 183.48 points.

The pair skated to “Scheherazade”, a performance so in sync, that it was like they were a shadow of one another. Watching this routine was simply amazing, and most critics say the won the gold within the last 40 seconds of their routine.  The two now have a medal in every color after their win in Sochi.

Comments made from the duo seems as though they are not only grateful for their gold medal, but for their partnership as well throughout the years. According to the New York Times, in an interview Davis said, “We’ve grown up together in every sense of the word, and I’m just so grateful that we’ve gone through it together.”
