It was a sad moment in the tight-knit racing community.  On a dark night in August, driver Tony Stewart ran over fellow driver Kevin Ward Jr. on the track.  Ward has gotten out of his car to confront Stewart on the track after he caused Ward to crash. Stewart did not see him on the track as he was dressed in dark colors on a black track at night.  The incident was all caught on video sadly.

NASCAR decided to put in a new rule into place that prohibited drivers from exiting their vehicles unless there are extenuating circumstances like a fire. Stewart was scheduled to race the following day, but decided not to and did not race again until November.  A grand jury decided not to indict Stewart for the incident believing his account that it was an accident.

RIP Kevin Ward Jr.
