The Oklahoma City Thunder were missing something. Â Nobody could quite put their finger on it, but they think that piece is veteran point guard Derek Fisher. Â Fisher is a five time champion, but is now 38 years old. Â He will most likely be Russell Westbrook’s back up after the Thunder traded away Eric Maynor to the Trail Blazers. Â However, it is less about what he offers on the court and more about what he can offer behind closed doors.
Westbrook is an extremely athletic individual who can make great plays. Â However, when things don’t go his way, he has been known to express his emotions in a very public way. Â Recently he had a meltdown when teammate Thabo Sefalosha did not follow the play he set up correctly. Â This was while they were already up by 20 points.
Fisher can be a voice of reason for Westbrook. Â A leader that can show the young point guard how to control his emotions. Â Fisher has played with big egos, Kobe Bryant, and knows how to play with them. Â This is a good move for the Thunder and especially Russell Westbrook. Â However, does it put them in a better place to win a championship? I am not fully sold on that idea. Â If he does come down to a rematch of last year, the Heat are just too talented and dominant for the Thunder. Â Durant can handle Lebron James decently, but then you have Dwyane Wade who seems to be fully healthy again. Â Also, a lot of people are underrating the San Antonio Spurs who have played great all year and have a potential MVP in Tony Parker.
