As if the Redskins don’t already have enough problems with their offense, it looks like one of their starting tight ends is injured. During their preseason game against the Cleveland Browns, Niles Paul was finally getting his chance to start, his first time in four years which should have been exciting. Excitement quickly turned into disappointment.

In the first quarter of the game, Paul was trying to block because the Redskins were doing a running play and Cleveland Browns LB Craig Robertson was trying to make a tackle but ended up accidentally rolling on Paul’s leg. It was then that Paul knew he would be out for the season and the Redskins confirmed that he had suffered a fractured and dislocated ankle.

After the incident, Paul took to Twitter to share his thoughts through a series of tweets, “This one is a tough pill to swallow. Finally got the opportunity I always wanted since I entered this league. Took me 4 years to get there & just like that, it was taken from me. Life can be cruel sometimes. Thank you for all your well wishes & prayers. They are very much appreciated” Paul’s injury brings up another issue that doesn’t get talked about enough in the NFL which is how players deal with trauma.

The Redskins already lost Logan Paulsen after he sprained a ligament in his toe, also known as “turf toe”.  The injury was suffered during a team practice.  As if losing Paul and Paulsen were not enough, tight end Jordan Reed is still nursing a hamstring issue.  He aims to play in Washington’s game Thursday vs. Detroit, however, he did not practice yesterday morning with the team.  In a moment of desperation, no offense to him, the team signed tight end Ernst Brun Jr.  The team worked out Brun Jr. this morning with another tight end.
