Screen shot 2013-07-08 at 4.43.21 PMComing from Paterson, NJ, Victor Cruz could have easily been a statistic.  In jail or even dead.  He suffered setbacks every step of the road, but still kept up his fight.  Cruz was cut in college, suffered injuries at the professional level, and was doubted by many.  Despite all that, Cruz knew he was destined for greatness.  Even while sitting on his couch during the NFL Draft waiting for his name to be called and never hearing it, he never gave up. Today is the day that made all the wait and effort worth it.

Victor Cruz has been an elite receiver in the NFL for the past two years.  Victor Cruz has been to the Super Bowl and got to ride in a float down the Canyon of Heroes.  Victor Cruz has experienced success and now he has received the contract and commitment from the New York Giants. Today the Giants locked up Cruz for another six years.   Six more years of Giants fans screaming, “CRUUUUUUUUUUZZZ” every time he makes a catch.  Six more years of salsa dancing in the end zone.  He will be paid like a top receiver and he has deserved every penny because of his will.  He never felt sorry for himself and refused to quit.  How could he?  He had the city of Paterson on his back.  He had his pregnant girlfriend to play for.  Victor Cruz has officially made it.  He is not a Paterson statistic.  He is a role model to young men in a similar city who feel hopeless.
