So you thought your $5,000 raise at work today was a big deal? Â Leave it to Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander to top that. Â The ace has just got a five year extension on his contract which already had two years left for $180 million! The extension includes an eighth year option that would make the total value of the contract $202 million. Â If that doesn’t make you feel broke, he is not only the second highest paid player on the Tigers! Â First baseman Prince Fielder signed a ten year/$214 million contract last season.
When the news broke about Verlander signing the extension, he sent out a message to the city of Detroit and all Tigers’ fans via Twitter. Â “I love this city & the fans — couldn’t be more excited to spend my career here! We’re going to bring a World Series to Detroit!!!” Â So he is one of the best pitchers in baseball, possibly dating Kate Upton, and now has more money than he knows what to do with. Â Jealous yet?
