Dear Spurs,

After a 22-year run and a glimpse of hope playing well inside of the NBA bubble, the San Antonio Spurs playoff streak has come to an end. The Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Milwaukee Bucks and the undefeated Phoenix Suns beat the Dallas Mavericks The Suns are also competing for a playoff spot. Both of these wins eliminated the Spurs from playoff contention.

The first thought that ran through my mind was “How does the Spurs team feel?”

I wish I could call them myself and ask.

Although Coach Popovich has made it very clear that this is a developmental season, I have no doubt in my mind they are feeling down. Anybody who is a true competitor hates losing. This has to sting a bit.

The second thought that ran through my mind was, “How do the fans feel?”

After hours of trying to conjure a verbal depiction of what Spurs fans must be feeling, I realized I couldn’t. So I decided to ask Spurs fans to send words to comfort each other and allow the fans to paint the picture for me.

This is what they said:

“Spurs will always be number one to me!!”

– Donald Carrasco

“It took a CRAZY EPIC 2020 with killer bees, COVID-19, riots, protesting, chaotic world to bring an era to an end to halt our beloved SPURS to miss playoffs by one or two games this year. Keep working, come back stronger.”

– Luis Antopia

“The underdogs of the bubble made it tough on everyone…. they kept games close and tight. Unfortunately came up short, but on the bright side, next season looks very promising with this young crew we have….White, Johnson outstanding! GO SPURS GO!”

– DruStayin Tru

“Time To Become The Redeemed Team….. #Opportunity”

– Leo Chris Martinez

“We fought in the bubble just didn’t quite come up with what we wanted. It’s all good though because our future looks bright with our young players. Can’t wait for next season to start already. #GOSPURSGO”

– Robert Avila

“Yup proud of the history. Speaks for itself. [I] will always bleed that silver and black no matter what. In pop I trust”

– Frank Ramirez

“It was a good run. Spurs after being in playoffs for 22 years!! I know next season we will begin another legendary playoff run! I still love the spurs WIN or LOSE!!! GSG”

– Gabrielle Smith

“I feel like crying …But that’s ok we will be back next season. And GoSpursGo!!!”

– Mark Sacchetti

“I’m crying.”

– Fred Medley

“22 yrs…idk if I wanna [just] get drunk and cry or drive to SA and let Pop talk to me about life cause I don’t know what to do…”

-De’Marcus Jermaine Clark

“I’m already drinking…we’ll be good tho”

– Aaron Speights

“They think were down but we’ll be back next year”

– Robert Chavez

“So easy to like a team when they’re winning. The true fans show up through the good times and the tough times as well.”

– Orlando Morales

“The bubble brought you all together and now we see nothing but a bright future for all of our young players! Love ALL of you!!! You played with grit and heart the whole time! Go Spurs Go!!!”

– Veronica L. Mars

So there you have it, Spurs. Despite being eliminated from the playoffs, the fans are still here. They are drinking for you, crying for you, happy for you, and still riding with you until the wheels fall off.

With Love,

San Antonio
