Three-time NBA Champion Stephen Curry will make his official comeback debut this weekend Sunday, March 1st against the Washington Wizards. Curry has been out since October 30th, after breaking his second metacarpal in his left hand. Only playing a total of four games, Curry has been riding the bench. He has been rehabbing his hand while watching his team suffer tremendously this season. A record of 12-46, the Golden State Warriors are currently in last place for the Western Conference. A huge 180-degree turn from last season going 57-25, while making it to the NBA Finals.

Before the beginning of the season, the Warriors had it tough when it came to the roster. First, losing starter Klay Thompson during Game 6 in the 2019 NBA Finals by tearing his left ACL. Thompson has since been out the entire 2019-20 season. On June 30th, starter and crucial part to the Warriors’ success, Kevin Durant announced he was signing with the Brooklyn Nets. Just like that, the Warriors lost two of their top playmakers before the season even began.

Now with only 24 games left, and a very slim chance of making the playoffs the question stands, “Is it even worth having Stephen Curry return”?

In a recent interview, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was asked about Curry and his possible return to the court. Kerr made it very clear stating, “It’s never been a question, as soon as he’s ready he’s coming back.”… “If the point is that he might get hurt, then what’s the point of playing anybody.” Coach Kerr also made it very clear that Warriors fans deserve to see Curry play if he is healthy. It wouldn’t be fair to sit him while fans have stayed true to the team and purchased tickets during this rough patch.

Since the loss of Curry, the Warriors have had to rely on their young talent to compete this season. Struggling to find consistent success, having a veteran player will give them the leader they need on the court. Whether they win or lose, having Curry back gives the Warriors a chance to see who works well with who. Before the season comes to a close and in preparation for next season.

For teams that know their season will end after game 82, this is the time to start reflecting on both the positives and negatives the season had to offer. Hoping the offseason brings in new potential prospects.

Tip-off for Sunday’s game is 6:30 PM (MST) at Chase Center.
