Today is the day we have all been waiting for….Game 1 of the NBA Finals!
If you are anything like me, you started this basketball season very hopeful. Free agency shook things up completely and many of us fans thought that meant the Warriors would finally have to take a seat and a new team would take the reins. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
This evening at 9:00 PM in Scotiabank arena, Kawhi Leonard and the Raptors will take on Steph Curry and the defending champions Warriors. The series could go either way.
During the regular season, the Raptors defeated the Warriors both times they played each other. Normally, I would say they were my surefire choice to win, but there are so many other factors. For example, the Warriors have the Splash Brothers. They are both natural born shooters and we all know that offense wins games.
While Leonard is an amazing player, his shooting ability is not quite at the level of Curry and Thompson. It is not his downfall he just has to work a little harder.
The Raptors also have some of the best defensive players making them a heavy contender to win. The possible return of Demarcus Cousins this evening could also add some extra spice to this series. But the hunger the Raptors have to pull out a victory and prove themselves also speaks volumes.
I do think it’s a bonus the Raptors were able to acquire home court advantage. It can make a world of difference; they are on their home turf and in front of the fans that love and support them. (Speaking of support has anyone has seen the line of Raptors fans already outside of the stadium?!).
I also wonder with the Warriors having so much time off after sweeping Portland will they enter this series a little rusty needing at least one or two games to get back in their groove? All and all I believe this series will be a good one. There’s no way that either team will get swept. I’m just not sure who I think will take the crown at the end.
I would love it if Leonard and the Raptors could dethrone the Warriors because another Warriors victory would be just flat out boring. But I’m here and ready for an amazing NBA Finals!
