BbD4JdNIIAA3qM_.jpg-largeRoy “Doc” Halladay has called it a career. The two-time Cy Young Award winner has decided it was in his best interest to end his career. He signed a one day contract with the Toronto Blue Jays, the team that drafted him, so that he can retire as a member of the Jays.  It is likely that he will go into the Hall of Fame as one.  This last season was a hard one for Doc, who uncharacteristically struggled.  Halladay missed most of this season when he suffered a shoulder injury that required surgery.

He will most likely be known for throwing a no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds in his first postseason game of his career.  He is only the second pitcher in baseball history to ever do that; Don Larsen being the other pitcher.  At his press conference, he said,  “Baseball has been so great to me. I still want to find ways to be involved.”  He said his sons are excited to spend more time with their father.  He joins Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera as great pitchers who retired this year.
