imageAt this rate, by the end of the season professional football will become two hand touch.  First Roger Goodell had decided that touchdown celebrations, one of the best parts of football was unsportsmanlike conduct and would result in a 15-yard penalty.  Some of the celebrations included in this penalty are military salutes, dancing, and taunting the opponent.

Now, the NFL has decided that specialized face masks, like the one New York Giants’ defensive end Justin Tuck wears, will not be allowed on the field.  The only way for a player to wear a different one is if it is for medical purposes.  Tuck has suffered neck injuries so hopefully he will still be allowed to wear his because it is awesome!  Players wear the face masks to discourage other players from grabbing onto to them and causing injury.

All these new rules are getting pretty ridiculous.  The NFL and other professional sporting associations seem to put too much focus on banning aspects of the game that bring the player’s character  and creativity into the game. The face masks were helping the players prevent head injuries, but Roger Goodell clearly did not see it that way.  Colts linebacker Robert Mathis also wears a specialized face mask and tweeted out that he will no longer wear it unfortunately.  Screen shot 2013-08-11 at 1.24.09 PM

These masks will definitely be missed!

  1. I will admit the Sith Lord is going to far now. I have been a huge supporter of the Goodell era, but he is even trying my loyalty. The facemask thing is stupid and the saluting and etc is just fun and for some that is an honoring celebration not a taunt. I have been all for making the game safe but enough is enough. ( http://wp.me/p2FtV4-3L ) I wrote about it hear. And I agree that Tuck facemask is amazing!
