It does not appear that way as their pitching ace Matt Harvey has decided to undergo Tommy John surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow.  Harvey was placed on the disabled list in late August after experiencing some discomfort in his arm.  Everyone was shocked to learn how serious the issue including Harvey himself.   Harvey remains optimistic, but it is likely he will all of the 2014 season.

This is not the first time Mets have lost pitchers for a full season.  At the beginning of this season, fans learned that longtime favorite Johan Santana would miss the season.  Santana underwent shoulder surgery in April to repair a torn anterior capsule for the second time.  It took Santana 19 months to come back from the surgery. Santana came back strong from the surgery the first time, pitching the first no-hitter in Mets history.  Both the Mets and Johan are open to a return to the team.  He tweeted that he was moving on to the next phase of his recovery, throwing.  He is a tough athlete and I do not believe we have seen the last of Johan Santana.  It would be quite a site to see both Santana and Harvey bring home a championship to Mets’ fans who have waited for this team to succeed for so long. However, it looks like they will now have to wait until the 2015 season.
