As if the Lakers season couldn’t get any more dramatic, leave it to Hollywood’s team to throw in another plot twist. Â It looked like the Lakers were on a good track with the return of Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol from injuries. Â It was only a matter of time for Metta World Peace to get injured as he is the only Opening Day starter who had yet to miss a game due to injury. Â Now he will miss up to six weeks as he is scheduled to undergo surgery on a torn meniscus in his left knee tomorrow. Jodie Meeks will start in his place. Â This could be the last time World Peace will wear the purple and gold.
He has a player option of $7.7 million for next season, but this is Metta’s 15th season and he will turn 34 Â later this year. Â World Peace has said that he has thought about declining this option and instead look for a long term deal. Â Without Metta, the Lakers could miss the playoffs. Currently, they only have a one game lead in the eighth seed in the Western Conference over both the Utah Jazz and Dallas Mavericks.
