You win some, you lose some, that’s how the saying goes, and this has especially reigned true during last night’s New York Rangers game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

New York Rangers defenseman Kevin Klein was high-sticked at the end of the first period. Though it did not look like it at first, the damage was more severe than anybody thought it was. Klein lost a piece of his ear due to the action, and in classic hockey player fashion, he casually had the piece of his ear reattached shortly after. The piece was quickly sewn on and he wore a plastic guard for protection over it and made it back to the ice for a regular shift in the second period.

As if losing part of his ear wasn’t exciting enough for him, he went on to score the game-winning goal in an overtime shot. Of course, the Broadway hat went to him, which he was well-deserving of, but instead he passed it on to his one-day teammate and cancer survivor, Christopher Falzone.

If there is anything that fans can take away from the entire night, the pre-game Garden of Dreams Night ceremony, it is that when you want something bad enough, you will stop at nothing to get it, not even a detached piece of your ear.
