This Thursday, the Spurs are hosting the Raptors at the AT&T center – the first time both teams meet since Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green were traded in exchange for Jakob Peoltl and Demar DeRozan. This is a highly anticipated game for fans, since many have a huge chip on their shoulders with how Leonard’s camp handled the injury situation last year. Leonard sat out for a large duration of the 2017-2018 season and refused to appear on the bench during the playoffs.

Late yesterday evening, an Kawhi Leonard fan page ran by Leonard’s sister posted a message on their Instagram story stating:

The Instagram post from the account allegedly ran by Kawhi's sister talking about the death threats.

“Its crazy people are sending death threats to my family over Kawhi being with the Raptors and not playing on the Spurs. Who raised you? God got us!!”

Although there was no evidence or proof to follow the claims made by his sister, it’s alarming and disturbing to know that people take the game of basketball to an extreme. Despite anyone’s feelings toward a team or player, sending death threats to scare a family and keep them on high alert is unacceptable.

If in fact fans are upset because Kawhi Leonard left San Antonio, the reality of the situation is both the Spurs’ organization and Kawhi’s camp could not see eye-to-eye, and the best possible outcome for both parties was to part ways for the betterment of the Spurs team. In order to create a championship caliber team, everyone needs to be on the same page.

What are your thoughts on this situation?

The Spurs vs. Raptors game begins at 7:00 PM Central Time, Thursday on TNT.
