Former Nets superstar, Jayson Williams, was released this morning after serving eight months of his one-year sentence for a DUI he was convicted of last year. He was serving his sentence in Rikers Island. This is definitely not the first time Williams has been in trouble with the law. He is most famously remembered for pleading guilty to aggravated assault after being charged with reckless manslaughter in the shooting death of his limo driver, Costas “Gus” Christofi. He was given a sentence of 5 years with the possibility of parole after 18 months. Of course he did not serve the full five years, what celebrity ever does? Williams played for the Philadelphia Sixers and the New Jersey Nets for nine years. In 1999, he had career ending surgery after a collision with then teammate Stephon Marbury in which his leg was broken. Just another story of how fame and money turned a person down the wrong path.
