It’s not really the NFL offseason unless there is contact drama right?  This time it is wide receiver Dez Bryant who is trying to sign a long term deal with the Dallas Cowboys.  Bryant is unhappy that the team will not give him a multi-year deal, instead slapping the franchise tag on him for this season.  The team has until Wednesday night to agree with the receiver on a new deal and if they don’t, he is threatening to sit out of training camp and more importantly regular season games.

The alleged threat was made during a conversation with the team’s vice president, Stephen Jones.  However, he has since denied that Bryant ever threatened the team. Whether or not a direct threat was made, it seems like the Cowboys are not too worried despite Bryant being one of the top receivers in the game and makes Dallas’ offense that much better.  It is highly unlikely he would make good on his threat as it would mostly only hurt himself.

The franchise tag would pay Bryant $12.823 million. It would cost the receiver $752,000 for each game he misses.  Also, do you really think Bryant would want to miss playing the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football week one?
