With their second Stanley Cup Final run in the last three years, the Kings of LA or “the comeback Kings” as they have come to be known, charged back to take a 1-0 lead, after quickly finding themselves out of “range” within the first few minutes against the visiting men of New York.

Tension was high at Staples Wednesday night, as the Kings battled on their home ice to force the rocky opener into overtime. It was there, Justin Williams, or “Mr. Game 7”, again put the team on his back and scored the game-winning goal just past Rangers goalie, Henrik Lundqvist.

Although they are no rookies to adversity and fighting a deficit, the LA Kings aren’t too fond of overtime, particularly victoriously playing extra minutes in front of their home crowd. Their Cup Finals win Wednesday night marked the first home overtime win for the franchise since May 6, 2001. With a competitive series, such as the one at hand, it’s safe to say the men in black and silver hope to not make that statistic a consistent one.

The series continues Saturday, with Game 2 at Staples in LA beginning at 7pm ET, 4pm Pacific.

  1. Just as a note, it’s Stanley Cup Final, not FinalS. People make the mistake all the time, but just for accuracy!
