Hello, this is Rebecca Mardikian from Gridiron Rush! I am super excited to write about college football for you! Football has been my greatest passion since I was a little girl and I am so excited I get to write about the game I love most. College football just wrapped up its 2019 season, however, I have a 2019 season wrap up for you all. To get all the news about the season, stay tuned!

College football celebrated 150 wonderful years of the greatest game to ever be played throughout the 2019 season. As we all know college football is filled with failure and pain, but it is also filled with celebrations and glory. From crazy touchdown catches to memorable touchdown celebrations, the 2019 season was one for the books.

College football kicked off its season on August 24th. The opening teams were Florida, Miami, Arizona, and Hawaii. After a crazy week zero, week one was set for August 31st. From the very first college football game on August 24th, 2019 to the very last college football game on January 13th, 2020, college football had many fun memories along the way.

Some top matchups of the season were Auburn vs. Oregon in week one, LSU vs. Texas in week two, Notre Dame vs. Georgia in week four, Oklahoma vs. Texas, USC vs. Notre Dame and Georgia vs. South Carolina in week seven, Michigan vs. Notre Dame in week nine, LSU vs. Alabama in week eleven, Penn State vs. Ohio State in week thirteen and lastly Alabama vs. Auburn and Michigan vs. Ohio State in week fourteen. From an upset from South Carolina against the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs to a heartbreaking loss for the Oregon Ducks against a tough Auburn team, the 2019 season was sure filled with chaos.

Best Teams of the Season

One team that surely had jaws dropping was the LSU Tigers. LSU had not only incredible statistics, but also an unstoppable quarterback in Joe Burrow. From sitting on a bench at Ohio State to winning college football’s most prestigious award Heisman Trophy to winning a National Championship game. You can pretty much say that Mr. Burrow had a memorable season.

The LSU Tigers sure surprised the college football world this year and they have many more years of greatness ahead of them. Congratulations to the LSU Tigers for a memorable season.

Another team that had a great 2019 season was the Clemson Tigers. From winning 29 consecutive games, the Tigers couldn’t quite hold on and extend their win streak to 30. Unfortunately, the Clemson Tigers lost in the 2019 National Championship game to the LSU Tigers snapping their win streak. This was Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence’s first loss in his college career. Although a devastating loss, the Clemson Tigers still had a memorable season.

Disappointments

Some teams that did not perform up to expectations this year were the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Michigan Wolverines. Alabama had a disastrous season losing to LSU then to Auburn in the Iron Bowl. This was the first season in a few years that the Crimson Tide did not make it to the National Championship game.

Unfortunately, for the Tide, they also lost in the QB position. QB Tua Tagovailoa had a major injury concerning his hip. In November, Tua endured hip surgery due to an injury during the Mississippi State game. That would be the last time the college football world got to see Tua play in the Crimson jersey. Earlier this month Tua released that he would be entering the 2020 NFL Draft. Good luck to Tua in your future endeavors!

The Wolverines did not play up to exceptions this season, losing four games including a Citrus Bowl loss to Alabama, 35-16. With Shea Patterson entering the 2020 NFL Draft the Wolverines have big shoes to fill in the QB position. Could Dylan McCaffrey be the next QB for the Wolverines? I guess we have to wait until August to find out!

The 2019 season was a memorable one and I can’t wait for the 2020 season! I hope you all have a relaxing offseason because the 2020 season is going to be a wild one.
