The New York Yankees have a tough road ahead of them heading into the last few weeks of the 2016 regular season, and with seven left-handed pitchers scheduled to start in the next eleven games, they need an extra boost in their lineup. According to Jon Heyman, the team signed designated hitter Billy Butler to add some boost to their bench.

With young stud Aaron Judge suffering a hamstring injury that will likely keep him out for the remainder of the season, the Yankees could really use some extra help in the hitting department. 30-year-old Butler, who was released by the Oakland Athletics earlier this week, is hitting .276 this season with just four home runs. The main reason the Yankees went after Butler is because he hits .299 with an on-base percentage of .491 against lefties, so this could be the boost this Bronx Bomber team needs.

Unfortunately, should the Yankees make the postseason, Butler would not qualify for the team’s roster due to the fact he was signed after August 31st. The Athletics released Butler due to a confrontation he had with former teammate Danny Valencia just a couple weeks ago, but he has since apologized for his actions in the dispute. Ā The Yankees currently trail the Red Sox by four game for the AL East and trail the Blue Jays two games for the second wild card position. Let’s hope he can fit in, in the Bronx, just a bit better.
