It is always something special when two legends face off.  El Clasico gave us a chance to see soccer superstars Lionel Messi face off with Cristiano Ronaldo.  Messi already own El Clasico, scoring the most goals in the game’s history at 21.  Ronaldo is not far behind at 15 goals, but also owns his own place in history. holding the record for most consecutive games with a score. FC Barcelona won both of this year’s matches.

Real Madrid was embarrassed during the second meeting with fans waving white handkerchiefs by the end of the game. Not surprising considering the team really played a lackluster game.  Journalist Dermot Corrigan quoted Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez after the game, “Whenever you lose, we all have part of the blame. It hurts us, a lot, to lose like this, against Barcelona. But [we] must be united. Marcelo chance at start of second chance is key point in game, if that was goal… we talked at half-time about getting back into the game. Obviously it did not turn out as planned. We wanted to press to attack to win all high up and have possession of the ball.”

Barcelona manager Luis Enrique was quite proud of his team after the game. “This victory is glorious, especially in the way that it came about. We were the better side and the triumph is down to us. There is a long way to go but it is always important to win here. It has been an all round performance. It will go down in history as a memorable game for the Blaugranes.”

These two teams meet again April 3rd and as always this should be a good one.  Real Madrid needs to step up their game after the embarrassing loss they suffered this year.
