The Patriots winning Super Bowl 49 would have probably been the number one moment this year if the win was not clouded by so much controversy.  A controversy that lingered for months and is still the first thing that comes to mind when the Patriots’ win is mentioned.  DeflateGate accused the Patriots of deflating game footballs  during the AFC Championship game against the Colts.  New England won that game 45-7, but people still the team had an unfair advantage.

The Patriots played the Seahawks in a game that came down to the very last play; one that Seattle head coach Pete Carroll probably wish he could have a do-over.  The Patriots were up 28-24 with 25 seconds remaining  and the Seahawks threatening. With the ball on the one yard line, it looked clear that the team would feed their big back Marshawn “Beastmode” Lynch.  Instead, quarterback Russell Wilson threw a pass intended for Ricardo Lockette who got beat to the spot by Patriots defensive back Malcolm Butler.  Butler made an easy interception that ended the game and won New England another Super Bowl.

Quarterback Tom Brady, who picked up his fourth ring, was named MVP of the game.  He had a Super Bowl-best 37 completions on 50 attempts with four touchdowns and two interceptions.  Katy Perry performed at the halftime show and we were introduced to left shark, a background dancer who marched to his own beat!
