nfl-216This season has gone by so fast, it is crazy to think it is halfway over.  The Chiefs are still undefeated and the Jaguars are still winless.  A lot happened this week, but first we start with the Dallas Cowboys imploding at the end of the game.

  • Normally, when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys choking it involves the offense, mainly Tony Romo.  This week, however, it was the defense who lost the game for Dallas and Dez Bryant showed his frustration.  Facing the Lions and Megatron, Bryant expected to have a big game. When he was barely targeted in the first half of the game, he let his anger be known.  While passion is good, Dez could not have picked a worse time to have a meltdown.  Actually, he could and he did.  After surrendering the go-ahead touchdown to Matthew Stafford, cameras showed Bryant screaming at tight end Jason Witten.  Witten appeared to be telling him that there was still time for one more play.  However, it did not matter as the Cowboys lost and fell to 4-4.  While, they are atop the NFC East, somehow the suddenly hot New York Giants are only two games behind them.  Overlooked in the Lions game, was Calvin Johnson incredible day.  Johnson ended the day with 14 reception for 329 yards, making fantasy owners very, very happy.
  • Another team whose defense did not show up, was the New York Jets.  Praised for their toughness, the Jets looked like they did not belong in the same game as the Cincinnati Bengals.  Not that the defense got much help from the offense.  Quarterback Geno Smith proved just how inconsistent he can be, he threw two interceptions that resulted in fourteen points for the Bengals.  Cincinnati Bengals quarterback threw for a career-high five touchdowns, four of which were caught by Marvin Jones.  The Bengals really have all the talent to win the AFC and this might have been the turning point for them to start believing that themselves.  The Bengals are moving closer and closer to one of the elite teams in the AFC.  While the Jets, are still as inconsistent as ever behind another very shaky performance by their quarterback.
  • Peyton Manning actually looked human against the Washington Redskins.  He threw three interceptions and lost a fumble that resulted in one of the worst tackles ever made.  He may be one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, but tackling is not his strength.  Manning may have looked a little off as he played on TWO sprained ankles.  The Redskins did something most teams could not do against the Broncos; they took the lead! It was short lived, especially when Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III came out of the game.  Griffin took quite a shot and grabbed his knee, not the one he had surgery on last season.  The Broncos scored 31 unanswered points to win 45-21.   It did not help that Griffin and Kirk Cousins combined for four interceptions.
  • One team that wishes they could just find a quarterback to play every week is the Minnesota Vikings.  After Josh Freeman suffered a concussion in the game against the New York Giants, the Vikings went back to their original starter Christian Ponder.  It is their third different quarterback in as many weeks.  The Vikings still struggled against red hot Green Bay and do not look any closer to finding a permanent solution at quarterback.
  • While the Seahawks are well known for their “Legion of Doom” defense, it was the Rams defense who impressed.  The Rams finished the night with seven sacks on the elusive Russell Wilson.  The make shift offensive line is really struggling on the edges to protect Wilson.  Robert Quinn had quite the night with three sacks and five hits on the quarterback.  At least one side overachieved because the Rams on offense could not get it together. They are currently without starting quarterback Sam Bradford and Kellen Clemens had his team in line to win the game, but could not connect on a fourth and goal.
