XXX 2012_GODADDY_SUPERBOWL_CLOUD1_DANICAPATRICK_HIRES_GDLOGO.JPGIf there was ever a time to watch commercials, Sunday would be that time. Companies are sure paying enough for it!  International Business Times reports that a 30-second commercial that will air during the Super Bowl will cost companies $4 million dollars. Companies also have to shell out money for celebrities. With the price tag so high, which ads will be the most memorable of Superbowl XLVIII? There are certain companies to look out for while munching on chips and salsa:

Doritos: Doritos Super Bowl commercials have been getting an A+ in creativity for the past couple of years now. Fans have been creating Doritos commercials for the past 8 years now. It’s a brilliant way to create brand loyalty. Last year, one ad was a guy  willing to sell his goat because the goat was eating all his Doritos nonstop. The other commercial was a girl wanting her dad to play with her and she bribes him by offering Doritos. Soon the dad and all of his guy friends are wearing makeup and in dresses. There are 5 finalists in this years’ Crash the Superbowl Contest and you can view their ads here: https://www.doritos.com/us-en/base/finalists (voting ends Jan 30th ). Personally, I’m rooting for the creator of Time Machine to win a million dollars and a job on Marvel Avengers: Age of Ultron.

GoDaddy: Last year GoDaddy probably had the most memorable Super Bowl ad of 2013 with model Bar Refaeli kissing a nerdy guy named Walter. It was almost unwatchable and continued to objectify women (Bar could only be sexy and not smart). Their other Super Bowl commercial last year included women nagging their husbands to put their big ideas online. While the women are actually fully clothed, this commercial also wreaks of sexism. The men are all the ones with the ideas while the women were portrayed as angry. This year, the teaser seems to offer something a little different. It features Danica Patrick in a muscle suit running with other body builders to a tanning salon that is owned by a woman. No sexual innuendos and it’s still memorable!  You can view the teaser here:

Bud Light: Bud Light has been putting out teasers about what their Super Bowl commercials will be about this year. The clues so far are Don Cheadle and a llama, Arnold Schwarzenegger warming up for table tennis, and Reggie Mic making cool electronic drum sounds with a microphone. Apparently, they are planning something that will feature 412 actors, 5 rock stars, and 4 celebrities. This sounds like a lot of confusion.  Last year, Bud Light had a commercial about two friends who go on an epic journey to curse their rival’s lucky chair. It featured Stevie Wonder and Zoe Saldana. Bud Light has probably spent a lot more on this year’s Super Bowl surprise. Their slogan is “whatever is coming” and you can use the hashtag #upforwhatever to follow the buildup on social media. Bud Light has bought up all the Google searches for “Super Bowl Ad”, no matter which company is placed before or after that phrase. This company wins for best online presence! View it here:

Volkswagen: Volkswagen seems to do better than all the other car companies when it comes to Super Bowl ads. Last year, their commercial came with some controversy. It was about a white guy from Minnesota who is so happy about his car that he speaks to everyone at work in a Jamaican accent. It seemed as though Volkswagen was making fun of Jamaicans for the way they speak as well as most Jamaicans are considered black, so it also seemed a little racist. This year their teaser is about engineering the perfect commercial incorporating the same precision they use with cars.  It is a funny satire of the ridiculousness of some Super Bowl ads and a lot safer than their choice last year. Also, they could potentially be making fun of Bud Light. Volkswagen bought the search term “Super Bowl” from Google and their teaser already has over 1.5 million views. Check it out:

Other notable commercials to watch out for:

Butterfinger’s cute “cup therapy” ad about trying something new

The M&M company jumping on the twerking bandwagon

Something involving Dannon’s Oikos Greek yogurt and bromance

and Toyota incorporating former NFL star-turned actor Terry Crews and the Muppets

Overall companies seem to be trending towards humor this year, so stay tuned!
