The Philippines was devastated by Typhoon Haiyan weeks ago, and the damage is horrific to look at. Â Over 3 million people have been displaced with over 5,000 people confirmed dead. Â Despite all the devastation, the people of the Philippines have somehow remained positive and pictures have emerged of young kids playing basketball. Â It is one of the most powerful images taken since the storm hit and touched many players.
One of which was Los Angeles Lakers star Pau Gasol. Â Gasol made a promise that he would donate $1,000 for every point he scored against the Golden State Warriors. He scored 24 points and has kept his word, donating $24,000 to relief efforts. Â His effort inspired his former coach Phil Jackson to join in. Â He offered $50 for every point and rebound Gasol had last night, which came out to an additional $1,700. As if that was not enough, Reddit.com also got involved and offered basketball fans to join in on Gasol’s effort. Â Through their effort, they were able to contribute $4,000 to Gasol’s effort.
