The 10-time world champion, Oscar De La Hoya, has checked himself into rehab to deal with his substance abuse. Â De La Hoya has struggled with alcoholism and a cocaine addiction in the past and that is suspected to be the case again. Â He will also miss the big fight between Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez that his company Golden Boy Productions is producing. De La Hoya has been a mentor in Alvarez, but decided his health was more important. Â He admitted that they would both be in big fights this weekend, “His is the ring and mine in treatment. I will not be at the fight to cheer Canelo to victory since I have voluntarily admitted myself into a treatment facility.”
The fight is scheduled for Saturday night and is considered the fight of the year. Â The fight will take play in Las Vegas, NV at the MGM Grand. Â De La Hoya’s last fight was in 2008 when he lost to Manny Pacquiao. Â He made news in 2011 when pictures of him surfaced in women’s clothing.
