Coming off of a two-game winning streak, the Edmonton Oilers looked pretty good  through two periods in Friday night’s game trying for their third win against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Oilers were able to build a 2-0 lead heading into the third period, giving some hope that they would be two points closer to a playoff spot, but like they say, the third time is a charm, and oh boy, the third period was disastrous for Tampa Bay, at least.

The Oilers didn’t just allow three goals in their net, they SCORED them.  The first goal came after Brandon Davidson deflected a shot from Nikita Kucherov past Cam Talbot.  Less than 12 minutes later,  Taylor Hall buried a pass from Victor Hedman by Talbot; and a minute after that Darnell Nurse put the game-winning goal in.

With the position the Oilers are in right now, any and every point the team can grab onto to secure a playoff spot is crucial.   Though mistakes like this do happen, it’s unfortunate. The Oilers left the ice with a crushing 3-2 regulation loss.
