KC NWSL is getting a place to call home. Even though the team was only created last December, it is already making history. The stadium will be the first one built specifically for the NWSL. The project will be privately financed by the team owners, Chris Long, Angie Long, and former collegiate soccer player Brittany Matthews. The team currently shares the field with a minor league baseball team, the Kansas City Monarchs.

As if you needed further proof that it’s smart to invest in women’s sports, KC NWSL co-founder and co-owner Angie Long said

“Tremendous momentum exists in women’s sports specifically, and we are so proud to play a major role in ensuring the sport and also our region benefit from the economics and growth offered by a stadium of this magnitude.”

The stadium is expected to be open in time for the start of the 2024 season. It is described as the “centerpiece” of the city’s effort to bring excitement to the riverfront area. The stadium will hold 11,000 fans. The team already unveiled plans to create a $15 million training facility. It will also be the first facility built exclusively for an American women’s professional soccer team.
