I’ve already alerted my Commish, don’t worry.  It’s nearly sacrilegious to leave the revered game of fantasy football after playing for more than half of my life-and we’ll stop there since a lady doesn’t reveal her age. I’m determinedly curious as to what life, and football Sunday, is like, without arranging mind-boggling line-ups, frantically awaiting injury reports from Adam Schefter, and just enjoying the games for what they are.  But why? We’ve all had a bad couple of weeks where every decision we make blows up in our face and we scream out, in a jesting manner, “That’s it! I am not playing next year!” There may be a few more choice words in there.

I have been a diehard Packer fan since I can remember, and well: fantasy football can really cramp my fan hood.  There, I said it.  We all know how tough it is to have Drew Brees or Julio Jones light up our real-life team and, at the end of the day with money/pride on the line, what are we to do?  That’s where this “experiment” comes in to play.

Alternatively, I do understand the excitement that fantasy football can create.  Nobody really cares about a Bengals/Bucs matchup, do they? That’s where fantasy football comes to the rescue.  It can make the most boring of match-ups make or break your season. Let’s face it.  Those 3-13 teams sometimes give us the biggest, most consistent fantasy studs. Remember pre-2014 Jacksonville when MJD was a fantasy God despite his team’s inability to reach close to .500? That made the NFL more exciting!

Okay, before I regret my decision to sit this season out, let me remind myself that I can watch my Green Bay games in peace with no outside distractions.  I can fill my season with traditional Packer gamedays: cold beer, bratwurst, and our own family chants and rituals each Sunday.

At last, my gamedays will not involve frantic ‘sit or start’ mental gymnastics around 12:30 PM every Sunday.  I will journal my weekly experience and document my feelings on a FF-less journey.  Stay tuned each month as I will update you all on the pros and cons being brutally honest. I’m curious as to what you all think. Will I love it or hate it or fall somewhere in between?  We will certainly see over the course of the next several months!
