At age 23, Anthony Davis is already a superstar in his own right. This past offseason proved that when the Pelicans handed the center $145 million.  However, it looks like the New Orleans Pelicans will be missing their superstar for the rest of the season as head coach Alvin Gentry announced that Davis will not return to the court for the rest of the season due to multiple injuries.

Davis has appeared in 61 games this season, averaging 36 minutes, 24.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Earlier this season, he was labeled as one of the best NBA players,  a likely MVP candidate, and it seemed that he would take the Pelicans to the playoffs again. Now, Davis will miss the remainder of the season.  Davis will undergo procedures for a torn labrum in his left shoulder and an injury to his left knee. While this season may be over for the Pels, Davis’ long term health is much more important to the team.  Davis is the future of this team and without him, this team has no chance in the Western Conference.

Davis has not released a statement to the media yet but has talked to coach Gentry who shared his thoughts with the media, “He’s disappointed. He’s very disappointed…You know good and well that he loves playing and wants to be good. He feels a huge obligation to try to make this team better, try to get them back to where they were last year — making the playoffs and stuff like that.”  It may be a tough time for Pelicans fans right now, but getting their superstar healthy for years to come is much more important.
