After a freak accident last night while shagging balls in the outfield, the greatest closer of all time, Mariano Rivera, tore his ACL and his meniscus. He will have reconstructive surgery at some point next week in New York. You would that 43 he would see this as a sign to hang up the cutter and just relax until his induction into the hall of fame, but when you are real competitor like Rivera you do not stop until you are carted off the field. Rivera says he has not told his teammates that he plans on returning. I am sure that his teammates that have been with him for years had a inkling that he would return. “I am coming back,” Mariano Rivera said Friday afternoon in the New York Yankees clubhouse. “Put it down. Write it down in big letters. I’m not going down like this. God willing and given the strength, I’m coming back.” Gotta respect a man’s love of the game.
