What a blow to the San Francisco Giants. Their MVP, Melky Cabrera, has tested positive for testosterone and faces a 50 game suspension. “My positive test was the result of my use of a substance I should not have used,” Cabrera said in a statement released by the union. “I accept my suspension under the Joint Drug Program and I will try to move on with my life. I am deeply sorry for my mistake and I apologize to my teammates, to the San Francisco Giants organization and to the fans for letting them down.” Cabrera was having a banner season including being the MVP of the All-Star game and putting up a .346 average with 11 homers and 60 RBIs. This is the fourth drug related suspension just this year. It is so sad that the game of baseball has been overshadowed by drug use and poor choices. This is a tremendous loss for the Giants who already lack offensive power. There is no way they can survive in the postseason without his production. Even though they did win the World Series not too long ago, Tim Lincecum was a completely different pitcher and Brian Wilson was healthy. I do not think that they can survive with the pitching they have now unless they put Matt Cain out there every night.
