ware_kevin640It was like something out of a movie.  A player suffers a major injury that only motivates his team to win the NCAA Championship and then when he rejoins his team on the court, he scores on his first touch of the game.  Fortunately for Louisville and Kevin Ware that is exactly how it happened.  Ware returned to action last night as the Cardinals took on Cornell.  Louisville easily defeated Cornell, winning 99-54.   He entered the game in the first half with a little over fourteen minutes left.  When asked about his first basket, Ware seemed a bit disappointed in himself saying,

“I was pretty upset at myself that I didn’t dunk that one.  I thought the big man would jump so I was looking for the contact. I’m just glad that I’m playing and just understanding myself again.”

We are all happy to see Ware return so quickly, but no one is more proud than his head coach Rick Pitino and Ware’s teammates.   Pitino as well as the players were all visibly shaken when Ware suffered the gruesome injury against Duke. Pitino admitted that Ware “looked good” out there, but would still be monitoring his playing time.  He played thirteen minutes and finished with five points and two rebounds.
