Yesterday on Twitter, Kate Upton went on a tirade about Justin Verlander losing in the voting for the Cy Young Award and ripped the reporters who voted. It snowballed into a huge story with many applauding Upton for calling out the voters while others were quick to dismantle her argument. The story blew completely out of proportion and it only got bigger when Verlander got into it. The one point is how hypocritical Upton is being and why she shouldn’t be praised.

This, unfortunately, isn’t the first incident with Upton and the sports world. Earlier this year, she gave her opinion on the athletes engaging in the National Anthem protest. Her Instagram post created a firestorm for racism and bigotry unsurprisingly. You can see her post below.

Try taking a look at the comments and you’ll see all the idiocy. She even followed it up with another Instagram post, this time about the Seattle Seahawks with the hashtag #respect. Apparently, no one is seeing the hypocrisy here because everyone wanted to praise her for standing up to the MLB, if you can even call it that, because there was nothing unfair about the voting. Verlander lost the vote and it was a simple as that, but she had to drag it out into a long twitter rant.

She wants to call the MLB “unfair” but doesn’t want to give Black Lives Matter a second look. She doesn’t want to confront something, such as racism, sexism, and classism, that is out of her little perfect bubble. I’m not saying, Upton, does not have to deal with sexism, but white privilege means racism does not affect her and the millions of dollars she makes allows her to be rich and not deal with everyday problems. I’m not sure if anyone told her about her privilege, but she clearly has no understanding of what it is or how she can use it for good.

Instead of writing uneducated posts, maybe she should educate herself on Black Lives Matter and police brutality towards people of color. All of her talk about other sports and the media doesn’t help her image at all, it only makes her seem even more out of touch. Good thing her fiance plays baseball, though, because like Orioles outfielder Adam Jones said, it’s a white man’s sport. At the end of the day, I’ll never understand why she decided to rant on these topics when she knew it was only going to create drama.

Why even bother talking about racism when you have no idea what it actually is? Why rant about the MLB when a writer called you out for being uneducated? Why use social media as a platform to further spread hate and ignorance?
