For the second year in a row, the Detroit Tigers suffered a late collapse in the playoffs. Â It was clearly time for a change in the Motor City. Â Manager Jim Leyland has decided it was his time to move on and wanted to leave on his terms. Â Quite fitting for the guy caught smoking in the dugout during a power outage. Â Leyland is one of the most respected managers in the league and has had a lot of success in Detroit.
The Tigers have won the AL Central the past three seasons and went on to win the American League Title last season. Â After the defeat in Boston, Leyland got his team together and told them the news. Â He felt it was time for someone younger to manage the team. Â Leyland has been a manager for 22 years, only winning one World Series in 1997 with the Marlins. Â Baseball is losing one of its best managers, and he will be tough to replace.
