Ed Reed was once part of the vaunted Baltimore Ravens defense. Â He always seemed to know where the ball was going, and was always able to get to it before the receiver. Â After winning the Super Bowl last season, Reed decided to leave the city he became a star and try living in the South. Â He signed a 3 year/$15 million contract with the Houston Texans. Reed, however, was a shell of his former self. Â He has led the league in interceptions in three seasons and is considered one of the best safeties in the history of the National Football League.
The 35-year-old safety needed surgery in the offseason to repair a torn labrum. Â He did not participate in any offseason workouts and started training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform List. Â When he was healthy to play, he saw his drastically reduced over time. Â Reed only had 16 tackles in the seven games he played. Â It was inevitable that the Texans would let him walk after he made comments saying that his team was “outplayed and outcoached”. Â The Texans, in general, are having a very disappointing season after big dreams of winning a Super Bowl in the preseason. Â It is unclear if this is the end of Reed’s career, but it does look that way. Â The Dallas Cowboys discussed bringing Reed in for a tryout, but that appears unlikely.
