When it comes to having an impact in the hockey world, Hall of Famer Ron Francis is no stranger. Having been retired since 2004, and now serving as the general manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, Francis is still making an impact.

Shortly after news broke about GMs wanting to bring about a new 3-on-3 rule which would apply during overtime, news came out about Francis’ idea regarding faceoffs. The ex-centerman has come up with a faceoff rule change that would help to generate more goal scoring. Other GMs in the League have endorsed his plan of making the defensive zone player put his stick on the ice first.

Edmonton Oilers GM Craig MacTavish was one of the many GMs who came forward backing up Francis’ idea, saying “I thought it was a good initiative by Ron Francis being an old centerman. If he was taking the faceoffs there would have been a lot more goals.”

The potential rule change must still be talked out by NHL players, then approved by the players and team executives that are part of the competition committee, and finally, it would have to go through the NHL board of governors before it could go into effect next season.
