All good things must come to an end and Mariano Rivera was one of them. Last night was the last night Metallica’s legendary rock album “Enter Sandman” will come on in Yankees Stadium to signify Rivera coming in for relief.  With one out in the eighth inning, the song blared one last time and Mo ran in for the last time from centerfield.   With Yankees fans cheering, nobody even remembered the Yankees were out of the playoff race and losing to division rival the Tampa Bay Rays.

Getting the Yankess out of yet another late game jam, Rivera returned to pitch the top of the 9th inning.  After getting the first out easily, he was pulled out of the game by two guys who he has spent his entire career with, Derek Jeter and Andy Pettitte.  There was not a dry eye in the stadium, including Rivera.  The greatest closer of all time sobbed into Pettitte’s shoulder, a guy he has come in for so many times before.

After letting his emotions out, he tipped his cap to the fans who have watched him come through for them every time.  It was a beautiful moment as the fans showed their appreciation for the future Hall of Famer one last time.  It was a moment well deserved for a man who has shown nothing, but respect for the game of baseball.

Rivera has one last request before he says goodbye for good,  play the outfield.  Being out of contention and playing the Houston Astros, could help him fulfill his last wish.  Manager Joe Girardi who has been with Mo as a teammate since 1996 said that  he would “absolutely” consider the idea.  While it may be the last time Rivera ever steps on the mound in New York, fans will forever relive the memories he was apart of for the last nineteen seasons.
