A lot of New York Giants fans wondered why their team had released linebacker Michael Boley when it was a position they had very little depth at.  It looks like the reason may have nothing to do with his on-field performance.  Boley was arrested on February 3rd for physical child abuse in Etowah County, AL.  Three days before that he was mysteriously cut from the team.  However, since his arrest, Boley struck a deal with the prosecutors and will not face jail time.  He entered into a pre-trial diversion program which resulted in all charges being dropped.

Boley has two sons and this is not the first time he has had problems with the law regarding them. One of the mother of his children asked the court to supervise visits with Boley and his son.  His wife, Chantelle, also filed domestic abuse charges against the linebacker which were eventually dropped, but resulted in Boley being suspended from his first game as a Giant.  While the Giants signed Boley knowing of his past, it is very unlikely that with all of this information coming forward that they give him a new contract.  The Giants are known as a team that likes to stay out of the newspapers and will likely distance themselves from Boley.  However, he is very talented and if there is a team willing to somehow overlook all of his legal problems, they will get an excellent linebacker.
