After last night’s matchup of two of the heavy weights in the NFC, the focus shifted more on San Francisco’s quarterback.  While, both the Bears and the 49ers were forcIt ed to start their backups, Colin Kaepernick shined.  It lead to many people wondering if Alex Smith had just lost his job.  Let’s compare the two current teams in quarterback wars…

1. Representing the East Coast, you have the New York Jets.  There has been controversy with this team since the minute they announced the signing of Tim Tebow. It seemed that no one really knew where he would fit in or what role he would play, but in true Jets fashion, it was worth it for the publicity.   While Sanchez continues to  struggle, fans and media look for any sign that the Jets might look to use Tebow as a starter.  Head coach Rex Ryan has repeatedly said that Sanchez is their starter and it is not going to change.  It seems that the rest of the Jets agree with their coach after “anonymous” players went to the Daily News to complain about just how bad Tebow is.  This battle looks to favor Sanchez, but not because he is the better quarterback, but because there was no reason for them to pick up Tebow.   Advantage- Sanchez

2. For the West Coast, you have  the San Francisco 49ers.  There problem is normally a good problem for teams, but could spell trouble for current starter Alex Smith.  Smith suffered a concussion two weeks ago and was forced to miss the following game against the Chicago Bears.  This allowed Colin Kaepernick his chance to shine under the bright lights of Monday Night Football.  Kaepernick had previously been used for Wildcat formations and nothing more.  He has become the hottest quarterback in the league.  He left people stunned after he demolished the impressive Bears’ defense.  Coach Harbaugh did not help  in the controversy, but instead added to it by saying that the starting quarterback is the one with the “hotter” arm.  Ouch.  It sounds like Smith’s days may be numbered.  However, it would be unfair to discredit all that Smith has done for this franchise.   I have a feeling that once teams start to figure Kaepernick out, he will go back to being the backup.  I am going to say this feud favors Smith.  He has brought the 49ers to the playoffs and can handle playing against big name quarterbacks.  Advantage: Smith
