In the past few days, the sports world has been buzzing ever since Kobe Bryant came out and said that the 2012 Olympics team would destroy the “Dream Team”. This might have been the dumbest thing Kobe has ever said. Especially now that this team just lost Blake Griffin. Griffin appears to have torn him meniscus during practice. So now the team has called up 19-year-old Anthony Davis who has never even stepped onto an NBA Court. So the team consists of: Anthony Davis, Carmelo Anthony, Kobe Bryant, Tyson Chandler, Kevin Durant, James Harden, Andre Igoudala, LeBron James, Kevin Love, Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, and Dereon Williams. This is definitely a great lineup, no question about it. However, this team would get eaten alive by the 1992 tea which consisted of ELEVEN Hall of Famers. The 2012 team has some future hall of famers, however some of these players are still so young that their career might not be as prominent as most would have predicted. What did Bryant come out and say exactly? He criticized the team for not being athletic and being out of their prime. Let’s look at the facts… Jordan was 29, Scottie Pippen was around 27, Charles Barkley was 29, and Patrick Ewing was 29 and Kobe Bryant is turning 34. So actually….. the Dream Team WAS in their prime and Kobe, well is not (not taking anything away from him). Is Kobe a little worried that this team will not deliver? They already lack in the big man department with Dwight, Diva, Howard not playing and Chris Bosh recovering from injury. Will this team in gold? Most likely, but there is no competition for them. I think the King said it best himself, “For him to make that comparison, it’s one of those things where it creates conversation,” Jordan said. “I guess we’ll never know. I’d like to think that we had 11 Hall of Famers on that team, and whenever they get 11 Hall of Famers, you call and ask me who had the better Dream Team. Remember now, they learned from us. We didn’t learn from them.”
