Fox Sports is reporting that Miami Dolphins tackle Jonathan Martin has “gone AWOL” the last couple of days after a practical joke got taken too far during practice. Â Reportedly, there was an incident in the team cafeteria in which teammates left the table as soon as Martin sat down. Â It was all meant to be a joke, but Martin did not find it very funny. Â He got up, smashed a food tray on the ground, and stormed out. That was the last time teammates saw him.
The Dolphins are scheduled to play the Cincinnati Bengals tomorrow. Â Martin has been listed as doubtful for the game with an illness. Â Martin is seeking treatment for an undisclosed reason, and the Dolphins have stayed silence on the issue. Â Head coach Joe Philbin said he would only discuss players who practiced and Martin was not one of them. Â It is unclear when he will rejoin the team.
Whatever triggered Martin I am glad to see he is getting help to address. If he does suffer from a mental illness, it is not a joke and there is nothing funny about it. Â Wishing Jonathan Martin all the best and a speedy recovery!
